Ten, fifteen years ago we had no car clubs.

In the 1950s and ’60s, Mexican American men in Los Angeles–often excluded from the white mainstream– began modifying their cars. Since then, customizing cars has grown from a sub-culture to over a thousand car clubs across the U.S., including one Detroit.
